The overall objective of this 4-State CDC cooperative agreement is to enhance newborn screening (NBS) data collection using established population-based birth defects surveillance and/or newborn screening programs. We hope to demonstrate the feasibility of collecting a core set of standardized variables to assess health utilization and health status characteristics of infants with a common set of hereditary conditions. Enhancing information systems will develop state capacities to conduct long-term follow-up by enabling coordination of care, quality improvement activities and knowledge discovery.
