The purpose of this project is pandemic influenza preparedness program. PHFE will build upon existing lab infrastructue in the VRDL to hire staff in supporting the increased workload associated with novel influenza A (H1N1) lab testing, epidemiology and surveillance functions including but not limited to: developing improved tests for subtyping specific neutralizing antibodies, influenza neuralminidase, and identifying drug resistant flu viruses. The Project Director is the Assistant Chief of the VRDL and has worked with PHFE for over 5 years.
